In this moment, we have been thinking about John Wilson's etched portrait of Martin Luther King, Jr. we saw with master printmaker, Jim Stroud at Center Street Studio. Created in 2002, the print was etched through 20 successive ‘states’ on a copper plate. This video shows the image’s progress through the individual states over time.


John Wilson was a Boston-based artist whose work brought viewers to examine issues of social justice. He spoke about his art as protest to what he saw as a teenager during visits to the MFA, " None of these people looked like me and just by omission the implication was that black people were not capable of being beautiful and true and precious.” John Wilson, one of Boston's most esteemed and accomplished artists, continues to inspire a search for clarity and truth today.
